Four games on Monday, and plenty for your pool. Boston won in a shootout, Detroit took care of Florida on the road, Colorado erased a two goal hole in Chicago, and Dustin Wolf finally had a big night. Let's go through it.
Bruins 3, Golden Knights 2 (SO): Pastrnak settles it
James Hagens opened the scoring in the first with his 6th goal, and Morgan Geekie made it 2-0 on the power play. Vegas came back on goals from Mark Stone, on the power play, and Trevor Connelly, both set up by Mitch Marner. After a scoreless overtime, David Pastrnak was the only shooter to score in the shootout. Jeremy Swayman stopped 21 of 23 and Carter Hart 25 of 27.
Pool take: Hagens has 12 points in 16 games, a rookie who belongs in a lot of lineups. Pastrnak is up to 20 points. Swayman (8-3-1, .913) is a dependable starter, and the Bruins lead the Atlantic with 23 points. For Vegas, Marner has 15 assists and Stone 10 goals, 4 of them on the power play.
Red Wings 5, Panthers 3: Faulk leads a strong night on the back end
Justin Faulk scored on the power play and added an assist, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård did the same a minute later in the third to give Detroit some breathing room. Alex DeBrincat scored his 7th, Carter Mazur his first of the season, and Emmitt Finnie his 7th into an empty net. Moritz Seider (two assists in 27:28) and Andrew Copp (two assists) were also big. Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves on 26 shots. For Florida, Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad shorthanded and Sam Bennett scored. Jacob Markstrom stopped 24 of 28.
Pool take: Tarasov is 2-0-2 with a 1.75 GAA and a .927 save percentage, so keep a close eye on him. Seider hasn't scored yet, but 10 assists and that ice time make him a solid fantasy defenceman. Brandsegg-Nygård (10 points in 15 games) is a nice option in deeper pools. Reinhart has 8 goals, 6 of them on the power play.
Avalanche 5, Blackhawks 2: Kadri and Schwartz get it done
Chicago led 2-0 seven minutes in on goals from Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov, with Connor Bedard setting up Kantserov. After that it was all Colorado. Nazem Kadri scored twice, once on the power play, and so did Jaden Schwartz. Devon Toews had an empty netter and an assist, and T.J. Hughes added two assists. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar had an assist each. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 21 of 23 and Spencer Knight 24 of 28. That's three straight wins for Colorado. Bad news in Chicago though: Patrick Kane left with an undisclosed injury and didn't return, per Daily Faceoff.
Pool take: Toews has 15 points in 15 games, 5 of them goals, which is top pair production. Kadri (13 points) and Schwartz (11 points) are making the most of their minutes. MacKinnon has 25 points. Kantserov has 6 goals in 15 games for Chicago, a name to remember. Check on Kane's status before you start him next game.
Flames 2, Sharks 1: Dustin Wolf can breathe again
Adam Klapka had a goal and an assist, William Stromgren scored his first of the season and Joel Castagna had two assists. Dustin Wolf made 26 saves on 27 shots. Sam Dickinson scored the lone Sharks goal, his first of the season, and Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 of 22.
Pool take: a great night for Wolf, but his numbers are still rough (3-4, .862). We'd want to see a few more like this before trusting him every night again. Askarov (.901) played well in the loss.
The bottom line
Hot right now: David Pastrnak, James Hagens, Nazem Kadri, Devon Toews and Daniil Tarasov. Worth checking on the waiver wire in deeper pools: Michael Brandsegg-Nygård and Roman Kantserov.
