Busy Monday for poolers: a goalie returns tonight, a franchise centre to watch in Pittsburgh and some really good news in Montreal. Here's what you need to know.
Florida: Jacob Markstrom back tonight
Jacob Markstrom gets the net for the Panthers tonight against Detroit, per coach Paul Maurice, as reported by George Richards. It's his first start since Oct. 17. In 6 games he's 3-1-1 with a 2.21 GAA, a .897 save percentage and a shutout.
Pool take: if you set him aside while he was out, it's time to put him back in your plans. Keep an eye on how Florida splits the work over the next few weeks.
Pittsburgh: Malkin day to day
Evgeni Malkin (lower body) missed Monday's practice and is day to day, per Daily Faceoff. He's off to a strong start with 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists) in 13 games. The Penguins host Vegas on Tuesday.
Also in Pittsburgh, Elmer Soderblom (upper body) is now week to week, and defenceman Kaedan Korczak (lower body) missed practice too and is day to day. Justin Brazeau was recalled from his conditioning loan with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He hasn't played yet this season, but he scored 17 goals in 64 games in 2025-26.
Pool take: Malkin is the name that matters. If you rely on him, have a backup plan ready before Tuesday. Brazeau could turn into a sneaky value pick in deep pools if he gets real minutes.
Montreal: Suzuki in a regular jersey
Nick Suzuki practiced Monday in a regular jersey and was back at centre on the top line, TVA Sports reports. He hasn't played since Oct. 20, but he had 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 9 games before he went out. Kirby Dach missed Monday's practice with an illness. The Canadiens host Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Pool take: a Suzuki return would be great news for his linemates and the power play. We're waiting on confirmation for Tuesday.
Boston: Poitras back in
Matthew Poitras is expected to draw back into the Bruins lineup tonight against Vegas, with Sean Kuraly a healthy scratch, per Daily Faceoff. Poitras has 7 points (4 goals) in 11 games, but he's been playing under 9 minutes a night lately.
We're tracking all of it and will update if anything changes before tonight's games.
