Twelve games on Saturday, and plenty to fill any pool sheet. Martin Necas took over in Denver, Sidney Crosby climbed to sixth all-time, Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov rallied Tampa past the Wild, and Jack Hughes ended it in overtime. Let's go around the league.
Avalanche 4, Red Wings 0: Necas, MacKinnon and Makar rack up points
Martin Necas had two goals and two assists. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar each added a goal and two assists, and three of the four goals came on the power play. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped all 27 shots for the shutout. Detroit got nothing past him, while Daniil Tarasov made 25 saves on 29 shots.
For your pool: Colorado's top power play unit is cooking. Blackwood belongs in your lineup every night he gets the net.
Penguins 5, Kings 2: Crosby passes Marcel Dionne
Sidney Crosby scored twice, including an Evgeni Malkin shot that went in off him, first credited to Malkin and later switched. That 1,772nd point puts him alone in sixth on the NHL's all-time scoring list, ahead of Marcel Dionne. Malkin finished with three assists, Tommy Novak scored twice in the first, and Kris Letang had two assists. Sergei Murashov made 26 saves on 28 shots. Corey Perry and Alex Laferriere scored for Los Angeles.
For your pool: Crosby and Malkin keep producing together. Novak (two goals) is a deep-league option. Murashov delivers a solid win in Pittsburgh's net.
Lightning 4, Wild 3 (OT): Guentzel and Kucherov flip it
Minnesota led 3-1 in the third on two goals from Maxim Shabanov and one from Blake Coleman. Jake Guentzel answered with two goals and an assist, Charle-Edouard D'Astous tied it on the power play (one goal, two assists), and Nikita Kucherov won it on a power play in overtime, finishing with a goal and an assist. Dennis Hildeby made 19 saves, while Calvin Pickard stopped 30 of 34 for Minnesota.
For your pool: Kucherov keeps producing through all the contract noise. D'Astous, with three points in 24 minutes, is worth a look in deep formats. Shabanov is up to eight goals.
Devils 5, Islanders 4 (OT): Jack Hughes takes center stage
Jack Hughes scored the overtime winner off a feed from his brother Luke, after adding an assist in regulation. Luke Evangelista had a goal and an assist. The Devils fired 50 shots at Ilya Sorokin, who stopped 45. Matthew Schaefer, Simon Holmstrom, Anthony Duclair and Victor Eklund scored for New York. Jake Allen got the win with 19 saves.
For your pool: Sorokin takes the loss, but 45 saves is gold in formats that count saves. Young defenceman Matthew Schaefer is already up to five goals.
Hurricanes 9, Blackhawks 2: Carolina shows no mercy
Andrei Svechnikov and Jordan Martinook scored twice each. Sebastian Aho had a goal and two assists, and Shayne Gostisbehere and Alexander Nikishin each had a goal and an assist (Nikishin's first of the season). Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves. Connor Bedard had a goal and an assist, but Spencer Knight allowed six goals on 17 shots before getting pulled.
For your pool: a big payday for anyone rostering Hurricanes. Steer clear of Chicago's goalies until things settle down.
Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 2: Newhook doubles, Fowler steady, Rielly hurt
Alex Newhook scored twice in the first period. Chris Kreider and Zachary Bolduc (on the power play) added the others. Jacob Fowler made 26 saves on 28 shots. For Toronto, William Nylander and Gavin McKenna scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves. Morgan Rielly left after 5:45 of ice time with a lower-body injury, per Chris Johnston. Coach Jim Hiller had no update after the game.
For your pool: check on Rielly before you set your lineup. Fowler keeps looking good for Montreal. Newhook is up to five goals.
Capitals 4, Panthers 3: the Tkachuks produce, Washington wins
Brady Tkachuk scored twice (once on the power play) and Matthew Tkachuk had three assists, but Florida lost. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Aliaksei Protas each had a goal and an assist, while Alex Tuch and Jack St. Ivany also scored. Logan Thompson made 27 saves on 30 shots.
For your pool: the Tkachuk brothers stay must-starts. Protas and Dubois give you depth.
