Sunday goalies: Wallstedt, Tomkins and Brossoit confirmed, Konecny could return

Goalies for all five Sunday games, with Wallstedt, Tomkins and Brossoit confirmed and Kochetkov at 9-0-0, plus our pool picks and an injury check on Konecny, Tippett, Hall and Nikishin.

Five games on the NHL slate this Sunday, starting with Winnipeg in Carolina at 1 PM. The clocks went back overnight, so double check your pool's lock time. Here's who's confirmed in goal, who's only projected, and the injury news you need before you make your picks.

Sunday's goalies

  • Winnipeg at Carolina, 1 PM. Expect Stuart Skinner (3-3-3, .899, 2.97 GAA) against Pyotr Kochetkov (9-0-0, .919, 1.66 GAA, one shutout). Both are projected, not confirmed yet.
  • Minnesota at Washington, 3:30 PM. Jesper Wallstedt is confirmed by Daily Faceoff (8-2-3, .916, 2.14 GAA). Logan Thompson (5-3-0, .903, 2.78 GAA) is expected on the other side.
  • Utah at Philadelphia, 4 PM. Karel Vejmelka (6-4-0, .881, one shutout) against Dan Vladar (2-3-2, .888), both projected.
  • Edmonton at New York, 6 PM. Matt Tomkins is confirmed by coach Mike Babcock. It's his first start as an Oiler and his first NHL start since April 17, 2024. Edmonton is on the second night of a back-to-back, so Tristan Jarry gets a rest after back-to-back shutouts. The Rangers are expected to go with Dylan Garand (4-5-1, .899, one shutout).
  • Ottawa at Anaheim, 8 PM. Laurent Brossoit, recalled from AHL San Diego, is confirmed for the Ducks. Ottawa is also on the back half of a back-to-back, and Jonas Johansson (1-1-0, .861, 4.04 GAA) is expected.

Pool take: Kochetkov is the hottest goalie in the league at 9 wins in 9 starts, and he faces a Jets team with one win in its last 10. He's our safest pick of the day, with Wallstedt right behind. The big question mark is Tomkins. He hasn't played an NHL game in more than two years, so we wouldn't lean on him, but Rangers forwards suddenly look a lot more interesting. Same idea with Johansson in Anaheim. None of it changes anything for Connor McDavid, who has at least one assist in all 14 of his games (29 assists, 37 points).

Pregame injury check

  • Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett practiced in regular jerseys Saturday and could play Sunday against Utah, per coach Rick Tocchet. Konecny has missed 10 games (3 points in 5 games) and Tippett five. If Konecny is back, he's a nice target again in your pool.
  • Taylor Hall (upper body) was expected to miss another couple of games, per Rod Brind'Amour. Worth checking before the 1 PM puck drop.
  • Alexander Nikishin is back in Raleigh after signing a one-year extension. He's going through a mini training camp and there's no date yet for his season debut. His 33 points as a rookie make him one to keep an eye on in keeper and dynasty pools.
  • Jared Spurgeon (lower body) is week to week. He had 5 points in 10 games.
  • Rasmus Sandin joined the start of a Capitals practice Saturday, a first since his knee surgery in April. A return to games is still a ways off.
  • In New York, Joonas Korpisalo practiced Friday for the first time this season.
  • Ottawa is still without Andre Burakovsky and Warren Foegele, both out three to four weeks.

What to know from Saturday night

  • Ivan Provorov made his season debut for Columbus (19:31), and David Perron played his first game for Dallas.
  • Adrian Kempe sat out for the Kings (day to day) and Martin Chromiak made his NHL debut in his place.
  • Logan O'Connor missed Colorado's game for personal reasons, and Gavin Brindley was sent back to the AHL after the game.
  • Jacob Fowler won his seventh straight start, with a 1.67 GAA and a .941 save percentage over that run. He's still one of the hottest goalies to target.

We'll update this article as the other goalies get confirmed. Enjoy the games!
