Linus Ullmark is coming back, and that is welcome news if you have him in your hockey pool. Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia confirmed Sunday that Ottawa's top goaltender has been removed from injured reserve and is back on the regular roster.
Ready for Tuesday against Washington
In a story published in the Ottawa Citizen, Garrioch writes that Ullmark will be ready to face Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night at Canadian Tire Centre.
Earlier Sunday, the same reporter noted that Jonas Johansson had been sent down to Belleville and that Ullmark appeared ready for Tuesday.
Coach Travis Green said Saturday morning that Ullmark was close to a return. The 33-year-old missed his eighth straight game and watched from the press box as the Senators beat the
Utah Mammoth 4-2 on Saturday, with Samuel Ersson making 30 saves.
A lower-body strain on October 21
The Ottawa Citizen reports that Ullmark suffered a lower-body strain in an October 21 game against the Florida Panthers. He went down to make a save on Brady Tkachuk, spoke with Dom Nicoletta, the club's athletic therapist, and then left the game.
On Friday he said he was not sure when he would be back, but he was a full participant in the skate and in Saturday's morning skate.
The official NHL API matches the start-of-season line Garrioch cites: 8 games, a 7-1-0 record, a 1.33 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage. His most recent appearance in that line is the October 21 game against Florida (a win, 43:35, 1 goal against on 18 shots).
Johansson returns to Belleville
The Senators officially loaned Jonas Johansson to the Belleville Senators on Sunday, while the club had a day off. The team story says he made 4 appearances over a two-week NHL stint, going 1-2-0 with a 4.60 goals-against average and an .848 save percentage. The NHL API shows the same line.
Before he was recalled, Johansson was 3-1-1 with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in Belleville, according to the club.
What it means for poolers
Ullmark was one of the hottest goaltenders in the league before he got hurt, with 7 wins in 8 starts and a 1.33 goals-against average. If you already have him, that is elite value coming back. If your format allows changes and he was still available, he is a name to target.
Johansson heads back down after a tough stint. He was not a target in most pools, except the deepest formats.
Ottawa hosts Washington on Tuesday, then Colorado on Thursday.
