Big 11 game slate on Thursday night. Before you set your lineup, here's what changed since last night and what it means for your pool team.
Jakub Dobes gets the net in Dallas
It's official: the Canadiens announced Jakub Dobes will start Thursday night against the Stars. That's a tough draw. Dobes is 1-2-2 with an .847 save percentage in five games, per the NHL. Jacob Fowler, meanwhile, is 6-1-0 with a .942 save percentage and two shutouts in seven starts.
Pool take: if you roster Dobes, this is a risky start against a strong home team. In daily leagues, bench him without a second thought. Fowler is still the Montreal goalie you want. And per David Pagnotta, the Canadiens aren't in a rush to fix their three goalie logjam (details on our rumors page). On the Dallas side, Sam Steel could be back, per Daily Faceoff.
Chabot is back, Foegele out for a while
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen writes that the Senators could have their full blue line healthy for the first time this season against the Kings. Putting Cameron Crotty on waivers signals Thomas Chabot is ready after missing four games. A league executive had told Garrioch that Crotty could get claimed, and that's exactly what happened: the
Minnesota Wild claimed him Thursday, per Elliotte Friedman and Garrioch. Carson Soucy cleared waivers in Columbus, and Dallas put Cameron Hughes on waivers.
5 p.m. update: Chabot is indeed back tonight, paired with Jordan Spence, per Garrioch. Young Carter Yakemchuk is a healthy scratch. Up front it's less rosy. Travis Green confirmed Warren Foegele will be out for an extended period after a knee on knee hit from Jeremy Lauzon Tuesday in Las Vegas. In goal, Jonas Johansson gets a third straight start while Linus Ullmark is out indefinitely.
Pool take: Chabot has 4 points in 9 games, including one on the power play. If he's sitting on your waiver wire, go get him now. Foegele can come out of your lineup, and in shallow leagues his roster spot is up for grabs. Yakemchuk loses value as long as he sits. Johansson (.893) is a risky start tonight in Los Angeles.
Josh Manson will miss time in Colorado
Jared Bednar confirmed after Wednesday's game that Josh Manson will "miss some time" with a lower-body injury. No timeline yet. Daily Faceoff expects Noah Juulsen to draw in, and the Avalanche don't play again until Saturday against Calgary.
Pool take: Manson (4 points in 13 games) wasn't a big producer. The name to remember is Sam Malinski: 5 assists and a plus 9 in 12 games, and he could inherit more ice time. A nice option in deep leagues.
Red Wings host Chicago, without Dylan Larkin
2 p.m. update: complete change of plans. Todd McLellan said Dylan Larkin won't play tonight, and per Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun and Sportsnet, he won't play again until he's traded. Albert Johansson also sits, and McLellan says Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton are about two weeks away.
Pool take: pull Larkin from your lineup tonight. In season long leagues, hang on to him, his next role could be a great one. All the details and the impact on DeBrincat and Raymond are in our Larkin story.
5 p.m. update: agent Pat Brisson confirmed the decision in a statement, and Darren Dreger says a suspension is possible. Detroit recalled forward Sheldon Dries under emergency conditions.
Barkov and Marchand getting closer in Florida
Per RDS, Paul Maurice said Thursday that Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand are back skating and their recoveries from lower-body injuries are on track. Barkov has about four weeks to go and Marchand about three. Goalie Jacob Markstrom is skating too and is "not far off" from returning. In Minnesota, Brock Faber has cleared the return to play protocol and will start skating in a few days, with no return date yet, per Michael Russo of The Athletic. Jared Spurgeon will be reevaluated weekly.
Pool take: if Barkov or Marchand are sitting on your waiver wire, stash them on your IR spot now. They should be back in the second half of November. Faber needs patience, but a defenceman who put up 51 points last season deserves a spot on your bench.
Kindel and Girard back in Pittsburgh
The Penguins activated forward Ben Kindel and defenseman Samuel Girard off injured reserve Thursday, ahead of the Utah game.
Pool take: if you had them parked on your IR, time to slot them back into your lineup.
The Habs shuffle their lines in Dallas
Without Nick Suzuki, Martin St-Louis is still hunting for the right mix. At Wednesday's practice, Alex Newhook moved up to the top line with Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield, while Oliver Kapanen dropped down with Owen Beck and Josh Anderson, per HabsHQ and RDS. Caufield will also wear an A. On the power play, Lane Hutson stays on the top unit with Kirby Dach and Zachary Bolduc joining him, while Noah Dobson and Kapanen move to the second group. Heads up: Chris Kreider and Mike Matheson took a therapy day, so tonight's lines could still change.
Pool take: Newhook has no points in his last three games, but a look with Caufield and Slafkovsky is a real audition. In deep leagues he's worth a glance. Dach and Bolduc on PP1 is a small bonus for power play points. Just keep expectations in check tonight, since the Habs power play is running at 11.4% and Dallas kills penalties at 92.9%.
The rest of tonight's goalies
Late morning update, per Daily Faceoff. Andrei Vasilevskiy is confirmed for Tampa Bay against Winnipeg (reported by Benjamin Pierce). Pyotr Kochetkov was in the starter's crease at Carolina's morning skate ahead of Columbus, per Cory Lavalette, and he's a perfect 8-0-0 with a 1.61 GAA. Arturs Silovs was the first goalie off the ice in Pittsburgh, a good sign he faces Utah.
Pool take: Kochetkov is the hottest goalie you can start tonight if you have him. Vasilevskiy gets a Jets team scoring just 2.33 goals per game, a nice spot. Silovs (.890) is more of a gamble. The rest of the starters will be announced later and we'll keep updating this story.
