San Jose SharksChris Johnston (The Athletic) says there's still a feeling Dylan Larkin ends up with the Minnesota Wild. Nothing is done yet, but he's the big name to watch on the market. Darren Dreger (TSN) and David Pagnotta (Daily Faceoff) have reported on it too.
“still a feeling”
Chris Johnston (The Athletic) adds that Buffalo has joined Montreal in showing interest in Larkin, even though neither team is on his trade list. Nothing confirmed for now.
On TSN's Early Trading, Darren Dreger ran through the teams linked to Larkin that aren't on his list: the Canadiens, the Bruins, maybe Nashville, and he also floated Buffalo and St. Louis.
David Pagnotta (Daily Faceoff) still sees Minnesota as the front runner for Larkin. If Larkin opens his list beyond 10 teams, Boston and the Canadiens could get into the mix.
“Minny's in the lead”
On the Larkin file, David Pagnotta (Daily Faceoff) says Detroit has asked the Wild about Joel Eriksson Ek, going back to when Steve Yzerman was still in charge. Pagnotta says he wouldn't do it if he were Minnesota.
TVA Sports relays Elliotte Friedman's comments on 32 Thoughts: the Buffalo Sabres reportedly tried to get into the Dylan Larkin race, even though they're not on his list. Montreal isn't on it either for now.
Big turn in the Larkin saga. Elliotte Friedman reports that coach Todd McLellan told reporters Dylan Larkin won't play tonight against Chicago, and interim GM Shawn Horcoff will address the situation.
Frank Seravalli's understanding is that Detroit is still in trade talks and the plan is to sit Larkin out to protect the asset until a deal is done. Sounds like Larkin's camp has applied pressure.
Elliotte Friedman sums it up: Larkin will not play until a trade happens, and the Red Wings are expected to release a statement. Sportsnet adds that agent Pat Brisson flew to Detroit this week to meet him face to face.
Darren Dreger says CAA and Larkin clearly feel some deals with teams on his 10 team list were close enough to get done, hence the pressure. Detroit isn't interested in a futures heavy return and wants a decent player or two back.
Pierre LeBrun says Larkin's camp and the Red Wings talked last night and again this morning. Larkin feels he has given Detroit plenty of time since his May trade request, so he won't play for the foreseeable future while the Wings circle back to interested teams.
Per David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period), the Capitals, Wild, Devils and Hurricanes are among the teams that talked with Detroit this week, while the Canadiens are still holding out hope.
David Pagnotta adds that a well placed source says the Red Wings like the Protas brothers, Aliaksei and Ilya, in Washington. It's unclear whether the Capitals have any appetite to move them.
On the FAN Hockey Show, Elliotte Friedman said he doesn't believe a Larkin deal is close to done. As he sees it, Detroit is still on something of a fact finding mission.
Friedman adds that Larkin and his camp feel there are deals out there and want Detroit to make one. The Red Wings keep saying they have a bar they won't crawl under.
Darren Dreger says it's possible the Red Wings suspend Larkin. If they do and no trade comes quickly, he would forfeit $41,237.11 for every day he sits.
Elliotte Friedman believes Danila Yurov has been part of the Wild talks. His stock has risen, but Detroit wants something a little more firm and more proven coming back.
Now it's on the record from Larkin's side. Pierre LeBrun shared agent Pat Brisson's statement: Dylan has had enough of the situation and has been very professional and cooperative through the whole process. RDS and Daily Faceoff relayed the statement too.
TVA Sports is also reporting that the Red Wings could suspend Dylan Larkin.
Elliotte Friedman thinks San Jose is one of the teams the Red Wings have talked quite seriously with about Simon Edvinsson. The Sharks have young centers, and Detroit is looking to restock down the middle as part of all this.
Confirmed
Cameron Crotty ·
Thomas Chabot · Ottawa Senators ·
Toronto Maple Leafs · Minnesota WildBruce Garrioch (Ottawa Citizen) reports a league executive sees a chance Cameron Crotty gets claimed on waivers, with the banged up Maple Leafs a possibility. Waivers end Thursday at 2 p.m. Thomas Chabot looks ready to return against the Kings.
Bruce Garrioch confirms it too: the Wild picked up Cam Crotty from the Senators.
Confirmed by Elliotte Friedman and Bruce Garrioch: the Minnesota Wild claimed Cameron Crotty off waivers, so it wasn't Toronto after all. It also clears the way for Thomas Chabot's return in Ottawa.
The Wild make it official: they've claimed defenseman Cameron Crotty off waivers from the Senators.
Rumor
Quinn Hughes · Minnesota Wild · New Jersey DevilsJeff Marek and David Pagnotta (Daily Faceoff) discuss whether the Devils are lining up a run at Quinn Hughes to reunite the Hughes brothers in New Jersey, after the Connor Hellebuyck trade. Just talk for now, nothing concrete.
Wild GM Bill Guerin told WCCO's Chad Hartman Show he isn't worried yet about getting Quinn Hughes signed long term before he can hit free agency at season's end. Pierre LeBrun also touched on it on TSN.
“isn't worried about it”
